WHAT IS THE BCWG?

We are a working group: defined as “a collection of individuals that come together to achieve a stated objective.” [BusinessDictionary.com]

Our group is motivated to build a strong, interdisciplinary network of faculty, scientists, policy makers, consultants, state and local agencies, students, and members of the public working around a "biogas" research and education theme, located regionally in the Northeast U.S. and Canada.

All BCWG members share an interest in climate science, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions/process understanding, advancing quantitative field measurement of biogas, as well as advancing public understanding about “biogas” and, more generally, greenhouse gases.

WHAT WE DO

a partnership for biogas monitoring & education

The BCWG’s scientific objective is to improve quantitative understanding of the processes governing the release of biogas from natural and engineered systems.

  • We will collectively leverage the expertise and experience of BCWG members to both deploy existing biogas measurement technology and to develop new technologies capable of addressing the pressing need for novel technology sensor systems that enable high frequency, spatially-resolved biogas measurement.

  • The data streams generated by the BCWG will be made widely available to policymakers and scientists for improved GHG management that advances public health and well-being.

 The BCWG also has non-scientific objectives that include:

  • Building a network of individuals with diverse skillsets and experiences that will contribute to advanced understanding of regional biogas processes and emission mitigation strategies and policymaking;

  • Educating students and the public around greenhouse gas emissions, public health, environmental processes; and

  • Fostering an environment to build businesses engaged in biogas recovery and development of alternative, sustainable energy solutions in the Northeast region.
